Polymer clay witch faces
I experimented with some clay faces today.
First I used a flat clay face mold because I had one the size I wanted... It was not as good as I expected. The clay needed to be applied to a structure for that to work. I could have put it on a piece of plastic or something but I wasn't crazy about the features of the mold.
Next I tried a skull candy mold. Sprayed the mold with water, emptied the excess, then molded the skull and removed it. I cut off the back leaving just about half of the skull. I saw a video of someone creating a face like this using the mold. Just like a forensic artist, they applied clay to the skull. I thought it was at least worth a try.
Well, that could have worked if I hardened the clay before adding the features. From working the clay it became too soft. The skull had a tendency to warp.
Next I made a mold of a Halloween pick of a witch face. I tweaked the features a little so it more to my liking. This is the first time doing this. I used acrylic paint and wiped off excess. Since this is supposed to be grungy looking I am pleased with the results. Even though its not perfect, it is going to make the next ones look even better. I will be doing more experimenting with different paints and washes to achieve the look I want.
The middle one is closer to the original do you can see how a little work can create many looks with just one mold.
Just for fun I made a cute witch hat out of scrap clay.
